In the beginning, God created………..FASHION!

It is what it is. *shrug* November 21, 2011

The day started so well. *sigh*

I had a title for this post ready, I had taken pictures with my new camera and tripod, and the day was going smooth as silk.   I was having a super, fantastic day and then I decided to call the IRS about a tax issue, that should have been resolved but I hadn’t heard anything from them.   After being on hold for an half hour, being told that a “referral” would be sent to the agent that was handling my case, then being told that it would be 30 days before I would hear from the agent regarding the “referral”, and then talking for an hour with a taxpayer advocate it all boiled down to me having to refile some tax forms and wait another 3 months before my issue is resolved.  *shakes fist at tax preparer*

While driving down the expressway, going to the grocery store for my sweet potato pie ingredients, giving fellow drivers the stink-eye and giving my kids the business if I heard them breathe hard, I finally decided to just start mouthing the words,  ”Thank you, Jesus“, because it could be worse and say it with me…..it is, what it is.

So anywhoo, I did look cute today and I am wearing my fave new item; my Calvin Klein moto-style, faux leather jacket.  I love this jacket!!!!  I picked it up at Macy’s about a month ago and I wear it almost everyday.  It looks and feels like leather and has sweater-knit on the inside lapels.

Jacket-Calvin Klein @ Macy's, Turtleneck-INC @ Macy's, Cable Knit Midi Skirt-ASOS Curve, Boots-Etienne Aigner (no longer available)

I really like this skirt.

I love this jacket!

Well that’s all folks!  Anyone else like my jacket?  What about the skirt?   Last, but not least, can you recommend a good accoutant?  Mine is about to get FIRED!!!  TTYL!

I JUST LOVE A BARGAIN! August 5, 2011

Hi, y’all! *waving*  I’m visting my family in Knoxville, before heading to Atlanta.  This is sorta a vacation.  I am on my way to Atlanta for the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses.  The convention has a lot of activities and programs, so you can be as busy as you want to be for the week.

Now.  When ever I visit Knoxville, I love to hit certain stores, because the bargains are so fantastic.  One of my fave spots is Ross (we don’t have Ross in Detroit).  I got into Knoxville yesterday and the first thing my daughter and I wanted to do, was check out the Ross at the bottom of the hill.  I got a really pretty blue dress, that I wore today for our thrift shopping.  It was $9.99!  I had to get it.  I spent about $30 bucks; getting the dress, an animal print midi skirt by JonesNewYork, a black knit midi length skirt, and another support tank (I love to wear those under my clothes, for smoothing and shaping) What do you think about this dress?

This is not the greatest picture, but......*shrug* Dress-Ross, Wedge Sandals-Nine West, Handbag-See by Chloe

Even if I am only coming to town for a day or two (like this trip), I must stop at Marti & Liz.  They have some great shoe bargains! New, used, or whatever(any shoe I have purchased, has never been worn).  I have picked up many a great shoe at this spot, including the grey version of the wedge sandal I wore today.  In the same plaza as Marti & Liz, is the

Great consignment shop.

The Repeat Boutique is a consignment shop, that specializes in designer and name brand items.  I got a great piece there today.  It was so pretty, I had to buy it.  I am imagining it with a long, white slip of a dress or as part of a white pants ensemble.

I just think this is so pretty! Right now I am thinking, long white maxi but................we will see.

Any ideas on what I could wear this piece with?  Let me know.  Ok, well my Mom is calling me to the family room, to watch the dvr recorded episodes of Bold & the Beautiful (I can’t stand Steffy and I want to see what’s going to happen now that Katy has had a heart attack)  I will talk to y’all later! MUAH!

It Takes So Little To Make Me Happy! July 30, 2011

This is just a quickie, but I had to blog about my day today.  I was not feeling well earlier and was just………………….very blah.  I was physically in pain and emotionally just out of it.  I had so many plans for the day; things I wanted to do and things I had to do, but I was just not feelin’ it.  Anywhoo, my phone gives me this little ping and I check it.  I have some new tweets and a DM.  So, I check the DM and……………………….OMG!  It is a message from Girl With Curves!  I won a contest on her blog and my prize was a dress from BeBop Clothing!

I instantly went from doldroms and discomfort to this!

I was able to get out of the bed, put on some clothes, and make my way to rehearsal! It takes so little to make me happy (I have tried to get men I date to grasp this concept, but to no avail).  Gifts, money, compliments, free things, more compliments, more money, and loads of attention are an instant pick me up!

Of course I will post with the prize winning dress.  I can’t wait to get it.

*Deep Breath* Ok, so this wasn’t really an OOTD, but what do you think of my thrifted t-shirt?  Stripes are one of the top trends and when I bought this tee, I bought two other striped items.  Leave comments, please and I will ttyl! *skips off grinning*

The “D” July 12, 2011

*yawn and stretch*  Good morning, y’all! Just waking up (yay, summer vacation), but I couldn’t wait to sit at my computer and talk about the first blogger meetup I attended last night.  OMGoodness, color me excited!  I haven’t been blogging for very long, so I have a lot to learn and a lot I want to learn, so I have been looking for an opportunity to get some face time with other folks and compare notes.

I had been combing the intraweb, looking for Detroit blogger networks and I finally (Thank you, Jesus)found something.  I attended the Detroit Bloggers Kick-Off Party at the Commune Lounge in Royal Oak.  I got to meet some great folks.

Detour Detroit Crew-All about promoting Detroit!

I was especially happy to meet Inez from Style Chic 360.  She looked fabulous, of course and we of course took a picture together, see.

Myself & Inez

Don’t we look great?

Cardigan-Style&Co @ Macy's, Lace Trim Tank-Old Navy, Skinny Jeans-Ashley Stewart, Handbag-See by Chloe @ Macy's, Wedges-Nine West, Sunglasses (if you can see them on top of my head) Dolce & Gabbana-Sunglass Hut

I wore my white jeans last night and I will probably post another two outfits this week with my white jeans, cause I love them. *shrug*

I’m hoping to attend more Detroit blogger and fashion events.  There is so much going on in the D, but all most people hear about is the negative.  Trust me, there are a lot of hip, fashionable, trendy, people, places, and things going on in Detroit!  I love my hometown and want to highlight the postives as often as possible.

Well……… I think I am ready for my mid-morning nap (you can do that when you are on vacation).  I will talk to y’all later.  Hey, don’t forget! I love to hear from readers, so post a comment. Ok, now i’m gone.

Sunday Ramblings (Seriously! I am just rambling. LOL!) July 3, 2011

*rant*I love everything about summer except the heat!  I just got in from church and the blazing heat from door to car, car to door, makes you want to run back to the altar in case you missed something! I cannot go to hell!  Ok, now that I got that out…………..I have learned to enjoy this season.  The past few summers, I have not worked summer school, so I have had time to relax and enjoy the simple things in life (vis a vie, lay around the house and do free/cheap stuff, cuz I ain’t gots no money!) and that makes me really enjoy summer even more.  I get to spend time with the kiddos, go to the $1 show, have picnics; just enjoy myself (now if my soaps Guiding Light and As the World Turns were still on, I would be in hog heaven).

Anywhoo, I just got back (Tuesday) from my cruise to the Bahamas, via Miami, and I had an awesome time (pics later).  I missed my church family, so I couldn’t wait to see everyone today.  I enjoy service all the more because I don’t have to get home and get stuff ready for the work week (I will work my retail job tomorrow, but that is later in the day and I can zone out on that job for a few hours).

It is the first Sunday and traditionally, in a lot of churches, you wear all white.  I wore my white today and it felt so easy and breezy in the heat.

Cardigan-Style&Co @Macy's, tank-Dot's, Maxi Skirt-Style&Co @Macy's, Clutch-Thrifted, Thong Sandals-Anne Klein @Macy's

I have been looking for a nice white clutch for awhile, but I haven’t found one that was just right (kickin’ myself for not getting a  Jessica Simpson white clutch I saw, a few years ago).  I decided to carry a natural colored, woven clutch instead and I think it looks ok.  I like it because it is just the right size (I try not to carry small purses) and it has the wristlet thingy.

Clutch w/the wristlet thingy, handle, whatever. *my fave ring from ForLove21*

Sidebar, I got about 2 or 3 shades darker in the Bahamas, but my MAC Mineralized pressed powder……………………..WHOO! That stuff is great!  You may not be able to tell from the pics, but it just gives you a glow.  I top it off with MAC Ambering Rose blush and I am good to go.  Ok.  Well, I am off to my sister’s marriage celebration bbq. I will talk to y’all later. Leave comments! I love to hear from folks. Bye!

On my way to church. God is so AWESOME to me, that I have to give him some of my time!

Black Heart February 15, 2011

UGH!!!!!! I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!!  *big sigh* No I don’t, but yesterday I woke up in a foul mood, that was prompted by an unpleaseant situation from the day before.   I won’t go into any detail as to what happened, but let me just say……………………………………my feelings were hurt.  *another big sigh*

I usually wear black, but yesterday because my heart was black with anger, hatred, spite, jealousy, and a lot of other negative emotions ( I’m being honest, folks), I purposed in my heart to wear an outfit that would set me apart from most other people who were wearing……………..*evil eye*…….. red.

Black coat-INC @Macy's, black top-Ashley Stewart, black pants-Gap Premium Collection, black handbag-Coach, black ankle boots-? (some boutique, in some plaza *shrug*), black sunglasses-Versace @Sunglass Hut

This top is super cute! I love the rosette at the neckline!

Thankfully, I didn’t go to sleep another night in a bad mood.  By the end of the day, I had to come out of myself and spend time with someone whose Valentine’s Day will probably never be the same.   I was reminded that Valentine’s Day, like any other day we are allowed to see, is a day that the Lord has made and I better rejoice and be glad in it.  I hope you enjoyed your Valentine’s Day.   TTYL!

DEO VOLENTE-SPRING FEVER!!! January 31, 2011

As I sit here, debating whether to run to the store in a panic to prepare for the *booming male announcer voice* WINTER BLIZZARD OF 2011, I get increasingly irritated and anxious because I am………SICK OF WINTER!  I am tired of dirty, slushy snow. I am tired of blistering, windy cold days! I am tired of grey, dark mornings that make me want to just get back under the covers. I have actually started to envy bears; they get to sleep through this mess and then come out in the spring  and create havoc at picnics! I want to be able to do that!  *big sigh* Alas, I am not a bear. I am big, yes. I am black, yes, but I am not a bear.  So………. I will dream of spring as I dread going to the store and picking through whats left on the shelves (people have been raiding the stores all weekend. The only thing probably left on shelves is pickled beets, hominy, and olives with pits.)

I have, what is commonly referred to as,  spring fever.  I don’t typically experience this level of longing for sunny, snow free days (interspersed with grey, rainy days) until the first of March.  I guess I am just getting older. *shrug*   The slow, insidious creep of whites, corals, nautical stripes, and cotton trenches in stores, magazines, and catalogs, just fuels my desire for longer and brighter days.

So………I have been keeping an eye on the trend reports, leafing through the fashion mags, and dog-earring catalogs.  I love so much of what I see, but a few things have really stuck out for me and I am hoping (praying *wink, wink*) that I will be able to pick up a few of these items for the spring.

The trend I LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE the most, is the 70′s style trend.  I am a child of the 70′s and I have fond memories of the chic, easy, hip look of my mother and other women in that era.  I think I would look so good in this look, because some of the styles are so forgiving and so much more appropriate for women with some meat on their bones.

Ok, so here are pics of items I have on my Deo Volente (Latin for God Willing) list, that I feel I must have for spring to live out my 70′s, boho chic, Mary Tyler Moore, Diana Ross. Thelma from Good Times, fantasy.

Trouser Jeans-Alloy Very Ali McGraw or Mahogany.

Peachy Blouse-Dorothy Perkins "I'm going to break the glass ceiling and become the first woman junior v.p."

Jumpsuit-Anna Scholz for SimplyBe I love it! Visions of Disco's are dancing in my head. Hellloooo!

Kooba-I just love this bag and have been wanting a Kooba for so long! I would for sure carry it, when wearing flare or wide leg jeans and trousers.

Mule by Chinese Laundry-How "Three's Company" is it?

Rose Bunch Flute Sleeve Dress-ASOS Curve How cool and cute is this? If my head weren't so big, I could see me wearing a big floppy hat with this (seriously, its hard for me to buy hats)

*sigh*  These are really just a taste of things I want for Spring/Summer, but they are at the top of the list.  What are you feeling for spring?  Bold colors, prints, white (I have done all white, everyday, the past few summers), or stripes?

Well, I better get a move on.  Get as many pickled beets and olives with pits in the larder as I can, so my son and I won’t starve during the big, winter storm.  TTYL!

Sometimes……….. January 26, 2011

OOTD Charter Club Poet Blouse-Macy's, Levi's Drk Rinse Jeggings-Macy's, Unlisted OverTheKnee (Except on me. I have big calves) Boots-Macy's, Jessica Simpson Collection Ring-Macy's

Sometimes, I will wake up in the morning and have NO idea what I am going to wear to work because I am not that thrilled about going to work.  I just know, I need to have on clothes (unlike some of the parents who come up to the school.  Wearing p.j.’s anywhere but in the house or maybe to get the mail and take out the garbage is trife and I wish that trend would die a horrible death! My rant for the week.).  I need to  look like I put some time and effort into my morning ablutions. Today was one of those days.

Sometimes, I love certain items so much, that I will find any reason to wear them and MAKE myself believe that the item(s) will make a fine addition to the day’s outfit.  I wore two such items today; my boots and my ring.

Sometimes, even though I hated the idea of going to work when I awakened, I get to work and chit-chat (i.e. grouse and complain) with co-workers, give out hugs to the little ones, chastise one of the bigger ones, and linger for hours after work laughing about the events of the day.  That was my day, today.

To that end, this is what I wore today. The jean jeggings are easy and comfortable; the top is easy, comfortable, and……………colorful (you know I usually wear black); the boots are CUTE and comfortable.  Strangely, I didn’t wear earrings today, but I love the ring I wore.  The girls are just a couple of my fave little ones (*sista girl look* Favor ain’t fair! *shrug*).  Anywhoo,  I hope your day was great and I will TTYL!

Love these boots! I got them for $39.

I watched this blouse for weeks. I liked the style, but wasn't crazy about the material. It went down to such a ridiculous price I had to get it, in three different colors.

I love this ring! It's from the Jessica Simpson Collection at Macy's. (You know I just realized everything I had on today was from Macy's.)

Two of my favorite little students. Aren't they cute? They are both honor roll students, with 4.0 g.p.a.'s

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! *shrug* Maybe. December 7, 2010

Nothing puts you off of the holiday season, like working in retail. As the department stores and other retailers, start putting up christmas decorations along side the ghost and goblins. a sense of dread begans to creep up in cashiers, sales associates, managers, and loss prevention staff. People can get ugly, rude, and downright ignorant during the holiday season.

Now, as a christian, this time is a trying of my faith, cause I ain’t always been saved. It takes all of my Jesus, to keep me from going there with some of the customers I encounter on my part-time job (at the retailer that shall not be named).

#1 EXPECT LONG LINES DURING THE XMAS HOLIDAY!!!! No, they didn’t hire enough people. They will never hire enough people. Expect! Long! Lines!

#2 I know you want to get that, “I’ve been shopping. Look at me. I bought things from XYZ department store.” feeling. You and a thousand other people. So yes, we ran out of those lovely, paper, store handle bags. Some of your neighbors, co-workers, friends, family, and enemies (not you of course) insist on having the lovely handkerchief they just purchased, place in those lovely (large) bags, so………………..*shrug*

#3 Don’t invade other peoples personal space while I am ringing them up, because you must know where you can find the shoe department. Customers will walk right up to the counter, shoulder the paying customer out the way, say “Can I just ask you a question?”, while you are in the middle of asking a customer if that is cash or credit. That is rude!

#4 Don’t bring a rice steamer from the home goods department to the children’s department, expectating the people in children’s to know how much the rice steamer costs. THEY DON’T WORK IN HOME GOODS! “Oh well, the line was too long over there, so I brought it over here”. Ok. Refer to #1 and go back to home goods for a price.

#5 This is for your own protection. DON’T LEAVE YOUR PURSE IN THE FITTING ROOM, WHILE YOU LOOK FOR A SIZE 10! I find it in the fitting room, put it behind the counter, after yelling out “Did anyone lose a purse!” Ten minutes later, you return to the fitting room with the size 10 and some other stuff, to find your purse missing and go into a panic. Sweetie, take your purse with you. Today, I found it. Tomorrow, you may not be so fortunate. This seems like common sense, but it is not.

#6 This is for your children’s safety. DON’T LEAVE YOUR INFANT/TODDLER, UNATTENDED IN THE AISLEWAY, WHILE YOU GO TO THE FURTHEST CORNER OF THE DEPARTMENT TO LOOK THROUGH THE CLEARANCE RACKS! Again, seems like common sense.

#7 Children again. Don’t bring your young children out to the mall at 8 am and expect them to enjoy a day of shopping until 8 pm, strapped in a stroller. That is just cruel. Then, I and others, have to listen to his/her blood curdling screams, while you look for one last thing for your mother-in-law. Please, just………………I don’t even know what to say. *smh*

#8 Children again (I have so many more regarding children, but I will stop with this one). You know Egbert is a rascal, why would you give him a Godiva chocolate bar, to smear all of over his face and hands, the Michael Kors white sweater, Eileen Fisher pants, and Ralph Lauren coat? All this, while he is pulling tags off of clothes.

#9 Don’t expect there to be twelve of a clearance item in the stock room. IT IS ON CLEARANCE! We are not hoarding it. It is 70% off hun, this is it. Yes, I can try to locate it. Yes, I can call another store and ask them to try to find it for you. However, don’t expect the busy clerks at another store to bust their humps, to find this $6.80 shirt on a rack of 50, 000 clearance items. IT IS THE HOLIDAYS WHERE THEY ARE TOO AND THEY HAVE LONG LINES!

#10 I am gonna stop here, but I could go on. Please, refresh your consumer math skills. You ask me to price the blouse that was on the 40% off rack, then you ask if you can use a 20% off coupon, then you ask me how much is 20% off the price, then I tell you, then you want me to do the subtraction. Now, you don’t want it. You put a pair of pants on the counter, we repeat the above actions. I am trembling with frustration, because you have an armful of items. I know we are going to do the same thing for each item. You are holding up the line with these shananigans. You are on a budget. I get it. Use the calculator on your phone, the one you just took a call on while I am trying to give you the price on an item, so you can decide you don’t want it.

I’m done.

I know there are rude clerks and sales staff; I know the coupons can be confusing; I know you are tired; I know everything cost so much more now and the quality is cheaper, but it is what it is. Let US please be mindful of, respectful of, courteous to, and patient with each other, this holiday season. *sideways glance* After all, it is the most wonderful time of the year.

Once you go Black………… November 18, 2010

*big sigh* I really thought I was looking cute when I wore this outfit the other day (*giggle* I did look cute), but looking at the photos below,  I had an epiphany.  I need to add some more color to my wardrobe.

Black is my favorite color and a requirement for my part-time retail job (at the retailer that must not be named).  I back off of it in summer months and wear all white.   However, my fall/winter wardrobe is 90% black.  In the next few weeks, I am going to make a concerted effort to add some color to my closet.  What’s your favorite color?

My all black, as usual. LOL! Jacket-Ralph Lauren, Pants-Gap Premium Collection, Turtleneck-Lane Bryant, Shoes-Nine West, Chandelier Earrings-ForLove21

I love these shoes!!!
