I felt like a lady today.  I mean, I felt so sophisticated and lady like in my outfit today.

Don’t you love the sun spot in the pic, right on my boobs? Like they are being spotlit! LOL! I still really like this pic though, so I used it anyway.

I just got this outfit from ASOS Curve and it was perfect for the long day, I had today.  I wore it to morning church service and then I wore it to an afternoon church event with the community choir I manage, Antonio D. George and The Excellent Voices of Praise.

I am loving the return of the peplum this season, and when ASOS had a sale, I snagged another one (I have it in Lilac, too).

I tried not to get too crazy with the accessories, but I had to wear my beetle ring from Rachel Roy.  It is an eye catching ring (at least in my opinion).

The necklace is something I have had for a while and have barely worn, but I have seen so many women in statement necklaces this summer, I have been looking for an opportunity to pull out some of the ones I have.

I really was feeling this necklace with my outfit today.

I can’t wait to wear this outfit again, together and seperately.  This midi pencil skirt is about to be worn to ribbons and the peplum top will be so cute with cropped, black skinnies.

Well……….it is time for this LADY to shut it down.  Exhausted from a long of praising and worshipping.  I will talk to y’all later.

Color Me Bad! April 16, 2012

Hey y’all, hey!  Just a quick OOTD post.  I am really feeling all of the color this season and I have added SO much color to my wardrobe in recent months (really the past year).  Today,  I did some color blocking.  A trend that I love, but would have been afraid to try a few years ago.

I got two fabulous pencil skirts at Target a few weeks ago, on clearance.  I just hung them on the back of my bedroom door, thinking about how I wanted to wear them.  Sometimes, my procastination/laziness/haste to get to work prompts an outfit that just seems to work out (at least in my opinion) and today was one of those days.  I grabbed the skirt off of my door and the top out of my closet.  I was gonna wear leopard print pumps, but I spotted my blue shoes that I hadn’t worn in a long time and threw them on.

This outfit was comfortable and I felt very grown up and sexy;  I got a lot of compliments on it today.

Hey y’all, hey!! It’s Monday! YAY!!! Typically, I have very little idea of what I want to wear to work on a Monday, because typically I don’t want to go to work on Monday.  However, this weekend I was looking at some blogs and came across a recent post by GrownAndCurvyWoman here and I was inspired to wear my purple skinnies from ASOS Curve.

Coincidentally, I work at a high school where the school color is purple and the mascot is the Jungaleer (A reference to a lion or a jungle cat. *shrug* ).  So……..when I got to work this morning (cause I am not going to pretend like I planned this), I realized that I was representing with the animal print (Jungaleer) and the purple.  Hence, the title of this post, Jungaleer.

Anywhoo, I really liked how the animal print top looked with the purple.  I brought together two of the hottest trends (animal print and colored jeans).  I love all things animal print (got that from my Grandmother, Daisy) and to be honest, I don’t think animal prints ever really go out of style.  I also love the colored jean trend.  Colored jeans were very trendy when I was…………………..younger.  I know there is a rule that says, if you were around for the trend the first time, then you shouldn’t wear it the next time it is trendy (something like that) but I don’t care.  I really like the look and I already have a few pairs. Peplums!!! Yay!!!

Hi, y’all!! Got a quick OOTD post today.  I recently purchased a lilac peplum from ASOS Curve and I love it!!!  I think the peplum is really flattering for the fuller figure and when I remember as a teenager, the style was everywhere.  I got quite a few dresses in the style one summer and I thought I was Jackee from the show 227. It seemed like every outfit she wore had a peplum.  I really imagined wearing this top with dark rinse jeggings and some cute pumps, but I didn’t have the exact pumps I wanted so I wore my trusty wedge booties from Nine West.

OMG!  I think this top is so cute!  I hate that they were sold out of the animal print version, but if my wallet permits and they have the black one in my size, I will get that one too.

I got a chance to wear one of the items I picked up while on the thrift crawl with Fash Det in January.  This cuff is so cute to me.

Hey Y’all, Hey!!! October 4, 2011

OMG!!!!  I have been a bad blogger! *spanks hand*  I am so sorry! I really am.  Life has just been…………….hectic and slightly unstable.  Not in a horrible way, per se, but in a……………”I got a lot to do, a little time to do in, little money to do it with and I just can’t seem to focus on blogging” kinda way.

I had the joy/stress/pressure of getting myself and my two children ready for a new school year, which was compounded by an employment issue.  I got layed off (is it laid or layed? Idk. *shrug*) from my job over the summer, but the Lord God being the most AWESOME God ever, gave me favor and I was called back to work in September.  So, I just had a little extra “vacation” time.  *wink, wink*

No complaints, because being on ”vacation”, allowed me to do some things I don’t normally get a chance to do, like scratch my belly and belch while watching old Canadian drama series on Netflix, take mid-morning naps, bake cakes and pies that I will nibble on in the wee hours of the morning while watching Family Guy, see my son off to school after he turns down my half-hearted offer to get up and fix him a hot breakfast, and pad to the mailbox in my bra and panties (No one saw me. They were all at work. LOL!).

Time off also gave me time to do some reading, prioritizing, wishful thinking, advance planning, and window shopping.  On the fashion front, I am loving so many things for the fall and have been able to add some things to my wardrobe (especially since I got called back to work) this season.

These pumps are so much cuter in person!  I have already worn them with all black to work, but I plan to wear them with some brighter colored pieces and some camel colored wide leg pants I just ordered from the Gap.

It Takes So Little To Make Me Happy! July 30, 2011

This is just a quickie, but I had to blog about my day today.  I was not feeling well earlier and was just………………….very blah.  I was physically in pain and emotionally just out of it.  I had so many plans for the day; things I wanted to do and things I had to do, but I was just not feelin’ it.  Anywhoo, my phone gives me this little ping and I check it.  I have some new tweets and a DM.  So, I check the DM and……………………….OMG!  It is a message from Girl With Curves!  I won a contest on her blog and my prize was a dress from BeBop Clothing!

I instantly went from doldroms and discomfort to this!  

I was able to get out of the bed, put on some clothes, and make my way to rehearsal! It takes so little to make me happy (I have tried to get men I date to grasp this concept, but to no avail).  Gifts, money, compliments, free things, more compliments, more money, and loads of attention are an instant pick me up!

Of course I will post with the prize winning dress.  I can’t wait to get it.

*Deep Breath* Ok, so this wasn’t really an OOTD, but what do you think of my thrifted t-shirt?  Stripes are one of the top trends and when I bought this tee, I bought two other striped items.  Leave comments, please and I will ttyl! *skips off grinning*

 

Colored Girl! June 19, 2011

Happy Father’s Day, y’all!  This is a quickie. I am super tired, because I have had a busy weekend. I worked my part-time retail job yesterday, attended a fashion show, went to praise & worship rehearsal, attended Sunday Service, and worked my part-time job again today.  It was one of the weekends that they relaxed some of the uniform rules and I decided to wear color.  I may have gone overboard, but I have really fallen in love with the color block trend.  Deciding months ago to start adding more color to my wardrobe, I have slowly but surely added alot of bright pieces to my closet. 

So today, I wore something simple and comfy.

I was going to wear a yellow tee with the skirt, but went with purple because I really like the idea of purple and red together.  It is just so………………..different (at least to me).

Me love color long time! April 15, 2011

Hey y’all! It has been so long since I did a post!  I am excited about spring/summer and have just been enjoying the warmer temps.  Anywhoo, I have mentioned in previous posts, that I want to add more color to my wardrobe.  I tend to stick to black and black is my favcrite color, but I was really intrigued by the pops of color I was seeing all over the place.  I decided to pick up colorful pieces, where I could, and try out a different look.

Now the outfit above, is one I wore to work on yesterday.   

The shoes got a little dusty when I walked thru the staff parking lot, but they are still super cute and I got a lot of compliments on them.

I got the shoes about a month ago, while shopping with a friend at Macy’s.  I saw them on another young lady in the shoe dept. and begged her to buy those shoes for herself, because they were gorgeous on her.  I thought about it and said to myself, “Step out of the box and see if they have the shoes in your size!”  You see the result.  The coral top, similar story. Standing in line at Dots, the woman in front of me had the top in her hand and I asked her if it was plus size (she was kind of in-between. She could go XL or 1X *shrug*).  She said, “Yes” and pointed me to the back of the store where they were hanging.  I grabbed my cute wedges I was picking up (the one and only 11 in the store) and hustled to the back to find my size.  The rest is history.

So……….this is my attempt at A) adding color to my life and B) doing a color block thing.  I have to say, I am really loving wearing color,  doing some new things with my wardrobe, and stepping outside of my black box.  Tell me what you think, people.

Grey’s/Gray’s Anatomy March 29, 2011

  I am doing a twofer today.  I have pics of an outfit I wore on this past Sunday and the outfit I wore today.  I have just been lovin’ grey/gray (am I the only person who gets confused about which spelling of grey/gray to use? *shrug*)!  I have picked up so many grey/gray pieces lately, it’s ridiculous.  I am kinda leaning towards grey/gray and taupe/blush/nudes, as my colors for spring/summer (I’ve  got alot of backslashes in this post. What’s up with that? LOL!).

Anywhoo.  I recently purchased a super-cute, leather jacket from Roaman’s and I love it!  I wore it Sunday, just because.  Today, I wore more grey/gray.  I am on a shopping punishment for the month of March, but I could not pass up these Levi skinny jeans.  They are fab and I LOVE them.  They are fast, becoming my go-to jeans for the season.

DEO VOLENTE-SPRING FEVER!!! January 31, 2011

As I sit here, debating whether to run to the store in a panic to prepare for the *booming male announcer voice* WINTER BLIZZARD OF 2011, I get increasingly irritated and anxious because I am………SICK OF WINTER!  I am tired of dirty, slushy snow. I am tired of blistering, windy cold days! I am tired of grey, dark mornings that make me want to just get back under the covers. I have actually started to envy bears; they get to sleep through this mess and then come out in the spring  and create havoc at picnics! I want to be able to do that!  *big sigh* Alas, I am not a bear. I am big, yes. I am black, yes, but I am not a bear.  So………. I will dream of spring as I dread going to the store and picking through whats left on the shelves (people have been raiding the stores all weekend. The only thing probably left on shelves is pickled beets, hominy, and olives with pits.) 

I have, what is commonly referred to as,  spring fever.  I don’t typically experience this level of longing for sunny, snow free days (interspersed with grey, rainy days) until the first of March.  I guess I am just getting older. *shrug*   The slow, insidious creep of whites, corals, nautical stripes, and cotton trenches in stores, magazines, and catalogs, just fuels my desire for longer and brighter days.

So………I have been keeping an eye on the trend reports, leafing through the fashion mags, and dog-earring catalogs.  I love so much of what I see, but a few things have really stuck out for me and I am hoping (praying *wink, wink*) that I will be able to pick up a few of these items for the spring. 

The trend I LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE the most, is the 70′s style trend.  I am a child of the 70′s and I have fond memories of the chic, easy, hip look of my mother and other women in that era.  I think I would look so good in this look, because some of the styles are so forgiving and so much more appropriate for women with some meat on their bones.
