In the beginning, God created………..FASHION!

Whatcha doin’ Wednesday night? July 14, 2011

Hello, all!  Well, as promised I am doing another OOTD post with my fave white jeans.  I wore them to bible study yesterday, which is my typical Wednesday night activity. Now I don’t always look like this for bible study, but…………………..many times I do, because a) most of the time I am coming to church after being at work and b) sometimes I just wanna wear my stuff.  One of the reasons I blog, is to show the world that just because you are a born-again Christian,  doesn’t mean you are boring, plain, and/or dull; not all of us are stuck on wearing, “I’m too Blessed, to be Stressed” T-shirts and “Mom” jeans.

Anyways.  I paired the jeans with a new top, that I love.

Top-Charter Club @ Macy's, Jeans-Ashley Stewart, Pumps-Steve Madden @ Macy's

The detailing around the collar and the sheerness of the top, just spoke to me.

This isn't the best picture, but the collar has white beads and studs. Cute!

It said, “Buy me! Buy me with your credit card and 20%off coupon!”.  So, I did and here we are.

I plan to do a few more posts with the white jeans ( I so wish, I had picked up another pair when I had the chance).  I want to do a super casual look and another look inspired by a Dots blog post, but tell me what you think about this look.  Do ya’ like my top? Leave a comment and let me know.  TTYL!

Resurrection! April 24, 2011

Turquoise Sweater Set-Charter Club@Macy's, Coral Poplin Skirt-Talbots, Blush Patent Hidden Platform Pumps-Steve Madden@Macy"s, Rhinestone Ring and Earrings-Forever21

Getting ready to walk into my church. Feelin' like I look and lookin' like I feel!

Happy Resurrection/Easter Sunday, y’all!!!! OMG! I had an awesome day, that began with an awesome church service and ended with an awesome dinner with loved ones.  The day was beautiful; just perfect weather and it made me feel RESURRECTED! Gone are the long, dreary days of winter. Coats are banished to the dry cleaners or the back of the closet.  Bare legs and opened toed shoes are visible everywhere. YAY!!!!

I felt really good and I felt like I looked really good (someone said I looked like a modern day “Mary Poppins”,  but I just looked at him like he was crazy!) I had been planning this outfit (not necessarily for the holiday) for weeks and I think it came off well.  Tell me what you think.

*Note that I am continuing to add more color to my life. Hi-five me!*

Saturday Night Special!!! February 26, 2011

Gray&Black Cardigan-DOTS, Black Tank-Ashley Stewart, Chinese Laundry Midnight Skinny-Alloy, Gray Pumps-Rainbow (summer 2010)

This is just a quick post. I wore some things today, that I acquired while on vacation.  Today was the African-American History Month event at my church and I had to emcee, act in some skits, and play stage hand.

This is the outfit I wore tonight (I had a couple of costume changes for skits. *shrug*). Ignore my messy living room and tell me what you think?

I love the way this cardigan falls. It was the last one at DOTS.

STAYCATION HAUL! YAY!!!!! February 25, 2011

*Ahhhhhhh!*

That is the sound of a woman who has enjoyed a whole week off from work.  I have needed this break since my last real break, in the summer of 2010.  No trip, but I did plenty of shopping. This was a good time to shop, because many sites were offering 50% off already reduced prices.  I took advantage of every deal, I could reasonably afford.

I started with Ashley Stewart‘s 25%  sale last weekend.  I picked up one regular priced item and one clearance item.  Here is a pic of the cute khaki, moto style jacket I got from Ashley Stewart’s .

Ashley Stewarts Asymetrical Zip Blazer-Cute! Looks good on!

After Ashley Stewart, Roamans had the unmitigated gaul to send me a notice that they were giving me a % off and free shipping.  Here are some pics of what I got from Roamans site.

Roamans La Redoute Sculptered Dress-Didn't get the dress in gray, but in Fuschia. I haven't tried on yet, but I have high hopes! *grin*

Roamans Charcoal Blanket Sweater-Looking forward to wearing this with leggings/jeggings in the spring!

I then moved on to Bag, Borrow, and Steal. This is the sister site of Avelle.  Avelle rents designer handbags, but BBOS sells new and pre-owned designer bags.  Well, I get their emails and came across this Juicy Couture handbag for a nice price (I had a discount code, too. *cha-ching*)

Bag, Borrow, and Steal Juicy Couture China C Leather Handbag-It is not as purple as the photo and I am grateful. The patina on it is so retro and chic! I love it and started carrying it today.

I was not finished! Oh, no! I had to get some shoes. *sistah girl look*  I got some leopard print pumps from DOTS and these cute shoes from DSW Warehouse.

DSW Kelis Pump-How cute are these?!

Lastly, I hit one of my favorite sites, Alloy.  They had a great clearance sale and I missed out on some things by one day, but I did pick up some cute pieces.

Alloy Giovanna Puff Sleeve Dress-Haven't decided if I will wear with belt or not.

Alloy Gabriella Dolman-Cute on and blousy. Can't wait to wear!

Alloy-Chinese Laundry Midnight Skinny Jean/Cute, but a little low rise and loose in the waist. I will need a belt.

Whew! Just writing about this stuff has tuckered me out.  I only have the weekend and then back to the saltmine.  Let me get off of this computer and into my bed with some ice water and a bag of Better Made chips. TTYL!

DEO VOLENTE-SPRING FEVER!!! January 31, 2011

As I sit here, debating whether to run to the store in a panic to prepare for the *booming male announcer voice* WINTER BLIZZARD OF 2011, I get increasingly irritated and anxious because I am………SICK OF WINTER!  I am tired of dirty, slushy snow. I am tired of blistering, windy cold days! I am tired of grey, dark mornings that make me want to just get back under the covers. I have actually started to envy bears; they get to sleep through this mess and then come out in the spring  and create havoc at picnics! I want to be able to do that!  *big sigh* Alas, I am not a bear. I am big, yes. I am black, yes, but I am not a bear.  So………. I will dream of spring as I dread going to the store and picking through whats left on the shelves (people have been raiding the stores all weekend. The only thing probably left on shelves is pickled beets, hominy, and olives with pits.)

I have, what is commonly referred to as,  spring fever.  I don’t typically experience this level of longing for sunny, snow free days (interspersed with grey, rainy days) until the first of March.  I guess I am just getting older. *shrug*   The slow, insidious creep of whites, corals, nautical stripes, and cotton trenches in stores, magazines, and catalogs, just fuels my desire for longer and brighter days.

So………I have been keeping an eye on the trend reports, leafing through the fashion mags, and dog-earring catalogs.  I love so much of what I see, but a few things have really stuck out for me and I am hoping (praying *wink, wink*) that I will be able to pick up a few of these items for the spring.

The trend I LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE the most, is the 70′s style trend.  I am a child of the 70′s and I have fond memories of the chic, easy, hip look of my mother and other women in that era.  I think I would look so good in this look, because some of the styles are so forgiving and so much more appropriate for women with some meat on their bones.

Ok, so here are pics of items I have on my Deo Volente (Latin for God Willing) list, that I feel I must have for spring to live out my 70′s, boho chic, Mary Tyler Moore, Diana Ross. Thelma from Good Times, fantasy.

Trouser Jeans-Alloy Very Ali McGraw or Mahogany.

Peachy Blouse-Dorothy Perkins "I'm going to break the glass ceiling and become the first woman junior v.p."

Jumpsuit-Anna Scholz for SimplyBe I love it! Visions of Disco's are dancing in my head. Hellloooo!

Kooba-I just love this bag and have been wanting a Kooba for so long! I would for sure carry it, when wearing flare or wide leg jeans and trousers.

Mule by Chinese Laundry-How "Three's Company" is it?

Rose Bunch Flute Sleeve Dress-ASOS Curve How cool and cute is this? If my head weren't so big, I could see me wearing a big floppy hat with this (seriously, its hard for me to buy hats)

*sigh*  These are really just a taste of things I want for Spring/Summer, but they are at the top of the list.  What are you feeling for spring?  Bold colors, prints, white (I have done all white, everyday, the past few summers), or stripes?

Well, I better get a move on.  Get as many pickled beets and olives with pits in the larder as I can, so my son and I won’t starve during the big, winter storm.  TTYL!

SIMPLY………. January 23, 2011

Coat-INC@Macy's, Blouse-Lauren Ralph Lauren, Pencil Skirt-Ashley Stewart, Purse-Juicy Couture, Pumps-Jessica Simpson, Stockings-Berkshire @Ashley Stewart, Jewelry-Combination of ForLove 21 and Juicy Couture

Today was my first day back at my church, since my return from Miami.  I wore something black, comfortable and I think……simply chic.  *side note* The latest edition of People StyleWatch says, pearls, pearls, and more pearls are so last season, but I beg to differ!

Here are my OOTD pics for Sunday, January 23, 2011.  You will notice some of the photos are cropped. My hair was on the ziggity boom, so……………you know how it is. LOL!  TTYL!

Chesty LaRue! LOL! LOL! LOL!

I LOVE BAUBLES!!!

One of these days, I will learn how to pose.

A ballerina princess.......30 years later. LOL!

*giggle, giggle* I love this outfit so much, I wore it to work Friday, I wore it to church today, and I plan to wear it again, very soon.  *DON’T JUDGE ME!*

So anyway, when I wore it to work on Friday, one of the school safety officers told me I look like a princess. I ran with it. *shrug*

This outfit is a compilation of my recent obsessions: Juicy Couture, Net Stockings (Fishnets, Diamond Nets, Industrial Net, all net stockings), and anything ASOS.

When I really love an outfit or a piece, I will find a reason, any reason, to wear the STANK out of it!  Combine the gift of a Juicy Couture Charm Necklace and my love of this ASOS tutu, one of my favorite recent adds to my wardrobe, and you get an old lady walking around town thinking she is really cute.  *big, cheesy grin

What do you think of my Chanel-ly, princess look?

HAPPY NEW YOU!!!!! January 3, 2011

OMGoodness!!!! It has been almost a month since I posted and I feel really bad!  I have been really busy at my part-time job (the retailer that shall not be named) and when I say busy, I mean busy.  Almost 40 hours a week, in addition to my full-time job.  That should explain my last post.  There was so much more I could have added to that list, but the holidays are over and I won’t go there.

Anywhoo.  I had a wonderful holiday with family and friends and the new year is looking promising.  2010 had its ups and downs, but all in all, God was with me.  I lost weight in 2010, started working on my Masters in Counseling, watched my daughter graduate from high school and go off to her first year of college, and turned 40.  I am speaking success and victory in my life, in every area.  I am feeling good about myself and feel like now, unlike in my youth, I know who I am and I love who I am. :^)  It is a blessing to have a good self-concept, high self-esteem, confidence, and a positive outlook on life.  I know who I am and I am a happy new me!

Ok, now on to my next favorite subject after myself;  fashion and shopping.

The perk of working retail, is you get a first look at upcoming trends, incoming items, and…………………… sale and clearance items.  I will be honest, I shop while I work.  I am constantly on the lookout for things that are being reduced and *Billy Bob Thornton in Slingblade voice* ……I done good, this season!

I will of course be posting pics and I will be posting a new Deo Volente list, real soon.

I am going to kick off the year with some pics from my aunt’s retirement party and my New Year’s Eve outfit.

The dress I wore to my aunt’s retirement party is one of my favorite dresses, that I have had for a couple of years.  It is a classic example of the perks you get working in retail.  This dress was designed similar to some Calvin Klein and Tahari dresses that were in the store the season I bought it and I watched and waited for it to go on sale.  It did and I got it for less than $30.  The picture may not show how the skirt is khaki with a metallic sheen.  The dress is sleeveless and I love to wear it with a black cardigan.  This particular evening, I did something different and wore fishnet stockings with my BCBG peeptoe pumps. *side note* I LOVE BCBG shoes!!!! They are so comfortable!   I carried a little black and gold clutch I got from ForLove 21 for about $5.

Retirement party for my Aunt-December 11, 2010.

*please note-my NYE pics were taken on a camera phone, so…….LOL!*

My NYE outfit. Corduroy Leggings-Hue, Wedge Booties-Nine West, Tank-Ashley Stewart, Jacket-American Rag

The detailing on this jacket is so cute!!! :^( I wish I had better photos, but I will be wearing it quite often and I have it in gray, too.

I hate that you can’t get a good look at my outfit, because it is SUPER CUTE!  I wore it to work and then to church for our NYE party.  It is another example of items hitting your department and you snag them.  A couple of the items I have on, were dirt cheap.

Well…………I hope everyone had a great holiday season and I pray 2011 brings you joy, peace, success, happiness,  and takes you to a new level in every facet of your life.  Remember, the Lord loves you and I do, too!  HAPPY NEW YOU and HAPPY NEW YEAR!  TTYL!

Don’t Mess with My TuTu! November 30, 2010

This is a quick post.  I finally wore my ASOS Curve Asymetric Tutu skirt.  I so LOVE it and I wore it to work (at the retailer that shall not be named).  I rocked it with a black tank, faux leather moto jacket, moto style boots, and black tights.  I got so many compliments (and sales *sly grin*)! These pics are not the best, but I want to thank my daughter for taking them for me.  I WILL  be wearing the skirt again real soon and I will post better pictures.  Ta-ta!

Once you go Black………… November 18, 2010

*big sigh* I really thought I was looking cute when I wore this outfit the other day (*giggle* I did look cute), but looking at the photos below,  I had an epiphany.  I need to add some more color to my wardrobe.

Black is my favorite color and a requirement for my part-time retail job (at the retailer that must not be named).  I back off of it in summer months and wear all white.   However, my fall/winter wardrobe is 90% black.  In the next few weeks, I am going to make a concerted effort to add some color to my closet.  What’s your favorite color?

My all black, as usual. LOL! Jacket-Ralph Lauren, Pants-Gap Premium Collection, Turtleneck-Lane Bryant, Shoes-Nine West, Chandelier Earrings-ForLove21

I love these shoes!!!
