In the beginning, God created………..FASHION!

Lady!! July 23, 2012

I felt like a lady today.  I mean, I felt so sophisticated and lady like in my outfit today.

Don’t you love the sun spot in the pic, right on my boobs? Like they are being spotlit! LOL! I still really like this pic though, so I used it anyway.

I just got this outfit from ASOS Curve and it was perfect for the long day, I had today.  I wore it to morning church service and then I wore it to an afternoon church event with the community choir I manage, Antonio D. George and The Excellent Voices of Praise.

I am loving the return of the peplum this season, and when ASOS had a sale, I snagged another one (I have it in Lilac, too).

Peplum Top-ASOS Curve, Midi Pencil Skirt-ASOS Curve, Necklace (old)-Ashley Stewart, Beetle Ring-Rachel Roy@Macys, Pumps (old)-BCBG, Sunglasses-Coach@Sunglass Hut

I tried not to get too crazy with the accessories, but I had to wear my beetle ring from Rachel Roy.  It is an eye catching ring (at least in my opinion).

Ignore my nails. I haven’t had a chance to get to the shop, but what do you think about the ring?

The necklace is something I have had for a while and have barely worn, but I have seen so many women in statement necklaces this summer, I have been looking for an opportunity to pull out some of the ones I have.

I really was feeling this necklace with my outfit today.

I can’t wait to wear this outfit again, together and seperately.  This midi pencil skirt is about to be worn to ribbons and the peplum top will be so cute with cropped, black skinnies.

Well……….it is time for this LADY to shut it down.  Exhausted from a long of praising and worshipping.  I will talk to y’all later.

SUMMER DREAMS! July 16, 2012

Hey y’all, hey!!!  This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of co-chairing the Summer Dreams fashion show for my little cousin Darryl Ray Dewberry, an inspiring fashion designer.  This was a fund raising event held in my aunt’s backyard, to help her with the cost of preparing for her coming out.  She will be a debutante in Washington, D.C. this August, for the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses.

It was a great event, with my family involved and an opportunity for young people from the local chapter of NCGCC, to strut their stuff.  I didn’t get a chance to take pics of the actual show, because I was in the house helping the models to get lined up and making sure the show flowed.

I did take time after the show, however, to set up the tripod and take pictures of my outfit.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE,  the dress I am wearing!  So colorful and cute! Alot of bigger women are intimidated by stripes and there was a time when I was too, but this dress just drew me in and I had to have it.

Dress-American Rag@Macy’s, Clutch-BCBG@Macy’s, Flats-Calvin Klein@Macy’s, Sunglasses-Coach@Sunglass Hut (@Macy’s SHEESH! I am there a lot!), ID Bracelet (old)- Harajuku@Macy’s

….and my clutch?  Love to the nth degree! It is suede and the metal details just have me enthralled.

Anywhoo, I better get that dress to the dry cleaners ( I don’t want it to get pilly), so I can wear it one day in D.C.  What do you think of the dress?  Do you wear stripes?  Let me know what you think.  TTYL!

Color Me Bad! April 16, 2012

Hey y’all, hey!  Just a quick OOTD post.  I am really feeling all of the color this season and I have added SO much color to my wardrobe in recent months (really the past year).  Today,  I did some color blocking.  A trend that I love, but would have been afraid to try a few years ago.

I got two fabulous pencil skirts at Target a few weeks ago, on clearance.  I just hung them on the back of my bedroom door, thinking about how I wanted to wear them.  Sometimes, my procastination/laziness/haste to get to work prompts an outfit that just seems to work out (at least in my opinion) and today was one of those days.  I grabbed the skirt off of my door and the top out of my closet.  I was gonna wear leopard print pumps, but I spotted my blue shoes that I hadn’t worn in a long time and threw them on.

This outfit was comfortable and I felt very grown up and sexy;  I got a lot of compliments on it today.

Not the best lighting, but it was so windy outside I dare not try to take pictures outside.

The pictures above don’t do justice to my blue shoes (and I don’t know why they are so blurry), but you can see the shoes below and here.

My blue suede shoes!

What do you all think?  Are you into color this season as much as I am?  I am planning to really go BRIGHT as the weather gets warmer.

Well, time for me to do some homework and I think I may wear my blue shoes tomorrow.  I’ll ponder it some more and talk to y’all later.  XOXOXOXO

Jungaleer!!! March 19, 2012

Holding up the wall at Southeastern High School! GO JUNGALEERS!

Hey y’all, hey!! It’s Monday! YAY!!! Typically, I have very little idea of what I want to wear to work on a Monday, because typically I don’t want to go to work on Monday.  However, this weekend I was looking at some blogs and came across a recent post by GrownAndCurvyWoman here and I was inspired to wear my purple skinnies from ASOS Curve.

Coincidentally, I work at a high school where the school color is purple and the mascot is the Jungaleer (A reference to a lion or a jungle cat. *shrug* ).  So……..when I got to work this morning (cause I am not going to pretend like I planned this), I realized that I was representing with the animal print (Jungaleer) and the purple.  Hence, the title of this post, Jungaleer.

Anywhoo, I really liked how the animal print top looked with the purple.  I brought together two of the hottest trends (animal print and colored jeans).  I love all things animal print (got that from my Grandmother, Daisy) and to be honest, I don’t think animal prints ever really go out of style.  I also love the colored jean trend.  Colored jeans were very trendy when I was…………………..younger.  I know there is a rule that says, if you were around for the trend the first time, then you shouldn’t wear it the next time it is trendy (something like that) but I don’t care.  I really like the look and I already have a few pairs. What do you think about my look?  What is your favorite trend?

TTYL!

Beautiful day!!!

Oh, my, my, my!! It is a beautiful day and spring is in the air!  This is just a brief post on what I wore today.  I got up to birds chirping and sunshine streaming through my windows.  *sigh*  I had to go to work, but I didn’t feel so………………….blah about it.

I threw on my white jeggings and my green shirt.  I wasn’t really sure what shoes to wear, but I figured these brown boots would do the trick for the day.

What do you think of my outfit?  Was there beautiful weather in your neck of the woods?  Are you as excited about spring as I am?  Let me know and I will TTYL!

I like this picture!!!

Just getting off of work and there is still plenty of sunlight and day left! Yay! *throws confetti*

Beautiful day to wear stripes and floral!

Today was so beautiful!!! It wasn’t warm, but the sun was shining and that just makes me feel great.  When I got up this morning, I decided to do something, I have never done before. I mixed patterns!  *big cheesy grin* I was inspired by a past post on the blog site Everybody, Everywear that featured bloggers wearing mixed patterns.  This blog encourages bloggers to share their personal style and gain inspiration from other bloggers.  Well……..MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

I have had both of these pieces for quite some time and never really imagined putting them together, but I wanted to step out of my box.  Take a look at the pictures and tell me what you think.

Oh! My beret is borrowed from my daughter.

Me in my office. I think this picture may give you a better idea of how it looked together. *I rarely get good office pictures*

Peplums are back! Yay! March 2, 2012

Peplums!!! Yay!!!

Hi, y’all!! Got a quick OOTD post today.  I recently purchased a lilac peplum from ASOS Curve and I love it!!!  I think the peplum is really flattering for the fuller figure and when I remember as a teenager, the style was everywhere.  I got quite a few dresses in the style one summer and I thought I was Jackee from the show 227. It seemed like every outfit she wore had a peplum.  I really imagined wearing this top with dark rinse jeggings and some cute pumps, but I didn’t have the exact pumps I wanted so I wore my trusty wedge booties from Nine West.

OMG!  I think this top is so cute!  I hate that they were sold out of the animal print version, but if my wallet permits and they have the black one in my size, I will get that one too.

I got a chance to wear one of the items I picked up while on the thrift crawl with Fash Det in January.  This cuff is so cute to me.

My little cuff.

Do you like/wear the peplum style?  Tell me what you think about my look, folks.

Put It In Neutral!!! February 28, 2012

Put it in neutral!

Hey y’all, hey!!!  Well……………………*sigh*it is back to work.  I just came off of a week long winter break and overall I enjoyed and got a little rest, but I sure could have used just one extra day.

One thing I did do over the break is catch up on reading blogs.  The past few months, I have been so busy with other life stuff, that I have neglected to really, read, study, meditate on, or marinate in the posts of other bloggers.  This week off gave me the chance to catch up with the posts of blogs I had not glanced at in months and also get hip to other blogs.

One blog that I subscribe to is, the Plus Side of Me with blogger Rebecca.  In yesterdays post, Rebecca did a Five Take (5 bloggers take on a particulare theme).  The Five Take theme for the post, found here, was neutrals and while Rebecca did not wear an entire outfit in neutral colors, I was inspired by her post to wear a neutral color to work today (Thank you, Rebecca!).

In the past year or so, I have acquired so many items in grey.  It was a safe segue from wearing all black, as I tried to incorportate more color into my wardrobe, but because I had added so much more color to my wardrobe (and of course still fell back on my love of black, in a pinch), I had not been wearing much grey lately.  Anyway, with the Plus Side of Me post on my mind, I decided to wear all grey to work today.  I pulled out some tried and true pieces and put myself in neutral.  It was a beautiful morning and I thought I was prepared to take pics but……………*BLURG!*..I forgot the attachment that hooks my camera to the tripod! *BLURG! again*  I had to drag one of my kiddieboos out of school during his break and have him take pictures of me.  Ironically, David G. was in neutral colors, too.  Thank you David for braving the wind and taking my pictures for me!  Tell me what you guys think of the all neutral (well I know the purse is not neutral, but work with me).

I love this jacket! It is cute opened and closed!

Oops!!! My sunglasses are by Coach @Sunglass Hut.

David G. in his neutrals for school today. I have known this boy since he was in middle school.

That boy is G! Q!

Come thru in the clutch!! February 23, 2012

I just love the clutch handbag!

I have always really loved the clutch style handbag.  It can be dainty and demure, sophisticated and glamorous, or hip and trendy.  My mother and grandmother carried clutch handbags and always liked how they just made a woman look mature and confident, like “I don’t care if this thing can just be snatched from under my arm!  It only contains a few singles and my lipstick, anyway!”
The clutch has returned to popularity in recent years and I have found myself accumulating quite a few.  Now, I don’t carry them often because I usually like to have a full arsenal of makeup and hair tools when I leave the house for work, church, shopping, or the post office.  You just don’t know who you might see, meet, or die in the arms of, so I like to be fully prepared.  I usually carry a clutch when I am going out; going out with friends, going out on a date, or going to a formal or semi-formal event.
At any rate, I have picked up a few new (or new to me) clutch handbags in recent weeks and I plan to incorporate them in some outfits in near future.  Two of the clutch handbags I picked up during the FashDet Thrift Store Crawl last month.
The peachy clutch, I would love to carry with some of the really pretty pastel items that are so hot for sping.  I imagine it with very light, mint green skinny jeans and the wispiest of cream, white, or light blue tops. *le sigh*  The black clutch I can carry with just about anything, anywhere, anytime.  The length of it just gives me a thrill, because it conjures up images of Joan Crawford.

Peach 80"s style clutch-Thrifted

Black suede like 40's style clutch-Thrifted I love that this clutch is xtra long!

Faux snake print clutch-Ashley Steward

The next two clutch handbags I caught on a humble.  I was running my little weekend errands and one of my stops was Ashley Stewart to pick up tights.  Well, they were all out of tights (apparently, they have stopped shipping them to the stores because spring is coming) but as I was walking out of the store, this red clutch caught my eye on a rack that said 50% off. I sashayed my Shonte’ up to the counter, to see if the half off price was $16 or was it half off of $16.  Beep, beep goes the scanner and I walk out of Ashley Stewart disappointed about the tights but happy over my $8 clutch.

Ain't God good?!!! I found it in blue!!!

Well, I continued to run errands and later in the day I had to go to a meeting at my church.  Now when I get to the church, no one has arrived yet so….still on a mission to get tights, I go to the Ashley Stewart near my church.  I walk in, tights display empty except for two pairs of 2x fishnets that looked like someone had taken a fork to them.  Lo and behold, though!!! What should I spy with my two brown eyes, a lone, blue faux snakeskin clutch like the one I had purchased earlier in the day.

So, I have managed to pick up four really nice (in my opinion) clutch purses for under $30 bucks.  I think I did good *pats self on back*.  I have decided to spend less on clothing, shop less, etc. and do more giving in 2012, and I feel like thrifting and purchasing item on deep, deep clearance will help me to do that.  *I was honest with God!  I won’t vow to stop shopping, but I will spend less, shop less, and buy more used stuff.*
Well, what do you think of my clutch handbags?  Do you carry clutch bags?  Let me know.
Conjuring up outfit ideas right now with my new handbags so I can……..come through in the clutch.  *I so clever! LOL*
TTYL!

Grey Day

Hey y’all, hey!!! I am so feeling wearing white in the winter!!! I decided to wear my white jeans today and I gotta be honest, it was a risk.  It had snowed a few days ago and then most of the snow melted, leaving small patches of snow and large patches of mud.

I would not be deterred however, by all the mud and black slush.  Nor would I be deterred by the overcast and grey sky.  The idea of wearing my white jeans actually was an encouragement to go out and start the day, because the thought of going out on this cold, grey day was a little depressing.

Here are some pictures.  Tell me what you think.  Would you wear white in the winter?

I don't know why I like this picture so much!

Wishing I could go to my car and go to some place with sun!
